Making Means to Me

Perhaps an act of confirming, through form, those sensations received before they could become words.

Buddhist statues, animals, forms that have endured through time.

what draws me is not the object itself, but the presence that lingers there, the density of its being.

I am also naturally drawn to the stillness, the shadow, and the wabi-sabi that dwell in things shaped by time.

Perhaps the reason I do not settle on a single material is that each one carries a different sense of time and presence.

I also find it fascinating that such materials, through association and combination, can open themselves into unexpected forms.

Rather than a striking individuality, I care about what dwells within.

I want to give shape to the presence of what I have happened to touch.
